The inspiration behind it all
Dominica Sims, our founder, is a dedicated advocate for social change who overcame a 15-year incarceration. Upon her return to the community, she recognized the critical lack of programming for women and girls. Driven by this insight, she set out to design innovative programs offering a holistic approach centered on empowerment and resilience. Dominica's Promise was founded in 2022 to address these crucial gaps in Detroit, Michigan.
Breaking barriers, building futures
Systems-impacted women—particularly women of color who have experienced violence and incarceration—face disproportionate barriers to employment and financial security. Without targeted support, many remain trapped in cycles of poverty, housing instability, and system involvement. Dominica's Promise believes in and takes action to provide family empowerment, community healing, and restoration, creating real opportunities for economic stability and breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty, inequality, and marginalization.
